The artwork explores themes of colonialism, supremacy, mass production, and environmental exploitation. It focuses on the history of modern Egypt during the colonial period in the first half of the 20th century, as well as the movement of Egyptian cotton from the fields of Egypt to the mills of Great Britain, between and during World War I and World War II. The point of view is that of Donia, the artist’s grandson, a resistance figure and separatist, who is considered a hero in the North Delta region of Egypt during the period of 1919 and after. Furthermore, the artwork intertwines with the histories of the two monarchies of Egypt and Britain, and faces the industrial era.
